Remarkable African Child Day Commemoration at Mwembesongo Ward in Morogoro!
Reflections from a Remarkable African Child Day Commemoration at Mwembesongo Ward in Morogoro!
Dear Mariam and Tobias,
I am absolutely thrilled to share the incredible success of our recent three-day commemoration of the Day of the African Child at Mwembesongo Ward! As you know, this is the core community where we are actively implementing our Child Marriage-Free Community (CMFC) project, and tying this milestone to this year’s official 2026 theme—“Assuring sustainable water availability and safe sanitation systems to achieve the goals of Agenda 2063”* created an incredibly powerful synergy with our ongoing environmental initiatives.
We structured the commemoration into Three Days of Action, and the momentum built beautifully each day:
Day 1: Grassroots Awareness & Mobilization Our empowered and nurtured CMFC committee took the lead, driving deep into the heart of the community. They conducted targeted awareness and sensitization campaigns across high-traffic local hubs, including motorcycle (boda boda) stages, bustling marketplaces, and retail shops, sparking vital conversations on child protection and rights.
Day 2: The Sports Bonanza We hosted an energetic sports bonanza designed specifically to engage and educate children. Through the power of play and team sports, we successfully sensitized young participants on the critical intersection of child protection, environmental care, and conservation.
Day 3: The Grand Commemoration The climax of the initiative was truly remarkable. Serving as the main organizer alongside the Ward Executive Office, CYTD hosted an official commemoration day. We were deeply honored to welcome the Regional Police Commander (RPC) for Morogoro as our Guest of Honor—a massive milestone that brought high-level institutional visibility and validation to our grassroots efforts.
Why Morogoro and This Theme Matter
Morogoro holds immense strategic value for CYTD. Nestled beneath the Uluguru Mountains, it is a region blessed with rich biodiversity and vital forest cover. However, these natural resources are under constant threat from harmful human activities. For CYTD, this commemoration wasn't just a symbolic event; it was a call to action. We are committed to intervening piece by piece, leveraging every available resource to protect this ecosystem.
