Child Marriage-Free Community Pilot Project – Tanzania

Child–Youth Transformation and Development (CYTD) is implementing a Child Marriage-Free Community (CMFC) Pilot Project in Mwembesongo Ward, Morogoro, Tanzania, with potential expansion across the Morogoro Region. This community-led initiative places local people at the center of change-mobilizing families, youth, faith leaders, teachers, and local authorities to use their own resources, voices, and leadership as the first step toward ending child marriage.

Aligned with the global Child Marriage Free World campaign, the project strengthens awareness, prevention, and collective action through education, intergenerational dialogue, and advocacy. CYTD works closely with schools, social welfare officers, and government representatives, while empowering children and young people to speak up for their rights and futures.

A key pillar of the pilot is faith-based engagement, bringing together over 30 Christian faith leaders to publicly commit to ending child marriage within their congregations and communities. Through the Interfaith Global Weekend (12–14 September) and ongoing mobilisation, faith leaders are encouraged to sign the global pledge and act as champions for child protection and girls’ education.

As part of a growing global movement alongside efforts in India, Liberia, Malawi, Kenya, Cameroon, and the DRC, this pilot contributes to a shared vision of a Child Marriage-Free World, while amplifying community voices through storytelling, photos, and impact reporting.

With donor and partner support, CYTD aims to scale this proven, community-driven model, ensuring that every child in Morogoro grows up safe, educated, and free to choose their future.
